TzubyCAMPERS Portugal From Royal Retreat to Modern Paradise: Cascais, Portugal

Experience the awe of the dramatic #BocadoInferno, unwind on the golden sands of Guincho Beach, and lose yourself in the tranquil beauty of the shimmering #Atlantic coastline. Join us on a journey through #Cascais, #Portugal—a coastal treasure where timeless charm seamlessly blends with modern sophistication!

Leaving the misty hills of Sintra behind, our #campervan rolled towards the sunlit shores of Cascais, a coastal treasure on the Portuguese Riviera. The town, famed for its blend of history, natural beauty, and modern charm, greeted us with open arms—and the sound of crashing waves.

We parked right next to the iconic Boca do Inferno, a dramatic cliff formation where the Atlantic roars into the rocks. Here’s a tip for fellow travelers: parking on the left side of the street is free for up to 48 hours. But beware—parking on the right is strictly for buses and short-term tourist stops. It’s a prime spot to stretch your legs, breathe in the salty ocean air, and capture unforgettable sunset shots as the fiery sky meets the sea.

Cascais isn’t just about natural beauty—it’s steeped in history. Did you know it was a favorite summer retreat for Portuguese royalty? Back in the 19th century, King Luís I introduced gas lighting here, making it one of the first towns in Portugal to modernize. Today, its elegant streets house cultural gems like the Casa das Histórias Paula Rego, celebrating the renowned artist, and the #Museum of the #Sea, a tribute to Cascais’ maritime heritage.

Our afternoon was spent at the windswept #GuinchoBeach. With its golden sands and rolling waves, it’s a paradise for surfers and kiteboarders. Later, we delved into history at the Cidadela de Cascais, a centuries-old fortress now buzzing with modern art and culture. And we couldn’t miss the Count of Castro Guimarães #Palace—its stunning architecture and peaceful gardens felt like stepping into a fairytale.

The next morning, we ventured into the heart of Cascais. The historic center was a feast for the senses—cobblestone streets lined with colorful tiled facades, boutique shops brimming with unique finds, and the irresistible aroma of fresh pastries. Of course, we grabbed a few to savor back at the campervan.

Cascais has it all—sun-kissed beaches for relaxation, a rich history to explore, and a touch of modern luxury to keep things exciting. It’s the kind of place that stays with you long after the journey ends. From beach lovers to history buffs, there’s something here for everyone.
