Lauterbrunnen is one of the most beautiful locations in Switzerland. The name “Lauter Brunnen” means “many wells” the valley offering no less than 72 waterfalls. The best known is the Staubbach Waterfall, which is one of the highest freefall waterfalls in Europe.
In 1779, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe visited the valley and was inspired by his famous poem “The Song of the Spirit Over the Waters”.
The ski areas are accessible by mountain railway. There are a total of 45 transport facilities in the Jungfrau region, as well as 213 km of slopes, amusement parks, 100 km of winter hiking trails and 50 km of toboggan run.
In summer, the location is just as attractive, with Lauterbrunnen being the starting point for some of the most popular hiking destinations in the Jungfrau region. On the opposite side of the valley is the holiday resort Mürren.
You can take the cable car to the top of Schilthorn (2971 m), famous for being the setting in which the classic 007, “On the Majesty’s Secret Service” was filmed.
