Located at the foot of the descent from the Col de Montgenèvre, Briançon offers a heavily fortified historic center built in the 17th century.
Several buildings in Briançon have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage including the city walls, Redoute des Salettes, Fort des Trois-Têtes, Fort du Randouillet (and many others), vestiges designed by Sébastien de Vauban, military engineer of King Louis XIV-th.
The artisan pastries are fabulous but the coffee, like almost everywhere in France, is mediocre. There are special car parks for campers. Motorhome parking is prohibited in regular car parks, we successfully used the Park4night app and its reviews.
